How we protect your health information.

This page covers two things in plain English: how this website treats what you type into it, and how Brain Recovery Centers handles protected health information (PHI) once you are a patient. Effective August 5, 2026.

On this website

  • What we collect on this site: only what you type into a form - name, phone, ZIP, and your answers. Nothing else identifies you.
  • What we never do: sell your information, share it with advertisers, or put your health answers into ad pixels. Our analytics are server-side and stripped of identifiers by design.
  • Texts and calls: if you give us your number, we contact you about your own request from our clinic line, (314) 314-9112. By submitting a form with your phone number you consent to receive appointment and care-coordination messages from us. Message and data rates may apply, frequency varies, and replying STOP ends messages at any time; HELP gets you help. We do not send marketing texts without your separate opt-in, and we do not put sensitive health details in text messages.

Once you are a patient: our HIPAA duties

Your clinical records are protected health information under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We are required by law to maintain the privacy and security of your PHI, to give you notice of our legal duties and privacy practices, and to notify you if a breach ever compromises your information.

How we may use and disclose PHI

  • Treatment: with the clinicians involved in your care, including your own therapist or doctor when you ask us to coordinate, and the dispensing pharmacy for any prescription (Genesis Pharmacy Services, 1876 Craigshire Rd, Maryland Heights, MO 63146, (314) 485-8600).
  • Payment: with your insurer or payment processor to bill and collect for services, including prior authorization.
  • Health care operations: quality measurement (for example, the outcome scores we track at every visit), safety reviews, and required program compliance such as Spravato REMS reporting.
  • When required or permitted by law: public health reporting, court orders, and abuse or neglect reporting. If you experience a medical emergency in our care - for example, a reaction requiring hospitalization - we share what is necessary with emergency providers and, if you have named one, your emergency contact.
  • Serious threats to safety: if we believe there is a serious and imminent threat to your safety or someone else's, we may disclose the minimum necessary information to prevent harm. This is the same duty behind the crisis practices we describe openly on this site.
  • Everything else requires your written authorization - including any marketing use, any sale of PHI (which we do not do), and any sharing of psychotherapy notes. You can revoke an authorization at any time.

Your rights

  • See and copy your records, and get an electronic copy of electronic records.
  • Ask us to correct a record you believe is wrong or incomplete.
  • Ask for restrictions on how we use or share PHI. If you pay for a service fully out of pocket, you may require us not to tell your insurer about it.
  • Ask for confidential communications - for example, contact only at a specific number.
  • Get a list of disclosures we have made outside treatment, payment, and operations.
  • Get a paper copy of this notice at any time, and complain without retaliation: to us directly at (314) 314-9112 or through the form on this site, and to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (hhs.gov/ocr, 1-800-368-1019). We will never penalize you for filing a complaint.

Questions about privacy, or want to exercise any right above? Call or text us at (314) 314-9112 or use the contact form on any page, and ask for the privacy officer. See also our refunds, complaints, and safety reporting page.
